Kideo Kidō’s Atira-me Água Benta is both an exhibition and a presentation of this new project that shows a collection of artworks produced in series over three years.
Kidō’s Solo Exhibition will brought together a selection of collages, paintings, drawings and installations that refers to different series from Mary to I Am or Am I to completely transform the gallery of Porto’s Art district.
Working with religious imagery, daring compositions, and magazine covers, the artist talks about identity built around stereotypes standardized by the media. The artist developed specific display strategies for the artworks, borrowing from the language of advertising to exhibit them as products in the exhibition space.
Atira-me Água Benta will feature a new sound installation commissioned for the exhibition plus recent paintings, including The Holistics (2022), three big size canvas painted through a long process of layering magazines. This presentation will be her first Solo exhibition and the artist will also perform for two hours which will involve audience participation.
The audience will also get a chance to take some drawings made from sketches of their faces, during the performance.
