Upon entering FACE/Municipal Museum of Espinho, a 15 meters long fishing net extends throughout the atrium, where colored fragments of plastic are found, unveiling the invasion of these materials into the marine habitats.
This fishing net was acquired from a local fisherman who rendered it unusable by the immensity of microplastics that became entangled in the net during the fishing activity.
The artist seeks not only to capture our attention for the aesthetic beauty of fishing net as a sculptural object, but also to its original function.
The choice of microplastics as the prominent material serves as a reminder of the permanence of plastic in the environment and its dismemberment into smaller particles, equally harmful.
